¡Tengo ganas de empezar el nuevo curso! ¿ Y vosotros?
For my beginners, that means ”I’m excited to start the new course! What about all of you?”
Rather more words in English than in Spanish eh?
That’s one thing I love about the Spanish language – you can very often express yourself in less words in Spanish than in English – & even more often you can make it clear what you mean just by changing the tone of your voice, the expression on your face – or using body language!
When I speak English I don’t use my arms, hands & facial expressions as much as I do when speaking Spanish. I once tried to give an entire lesson sitting on my hands…. I lasted maybe 5 minutes.
During our classes we won’t just be learning the spoken language. We’ll be looking at body language, gestures, talking about daily life in Spain, the food, the culture. The more advanced groups will be reading news items & discussing & translating them.
It isn’t about learning by rote, nor about learning ‘how to say’ stock phrases. It’s about learning how to use the language; adapting what we study in class to use in your day to day life.
¡Que nos vemos la semana que viene!
See you all next week!
