The next local elections will take place on 24th May next year, 2015.
Did you know that all residents of Jávea, or indeed anywhere else in Spain, but I’m talking about Jávea; whatever their nationality & over the age of 18 are entitled to vote in the local elections for the town. You have be registered on the ‘padrón’ & then register separately to go on the list of voters.
If you aren’t yet registered on the padrón, you need to do so by visiting the ‘Portal del Clot’, Avda. Amanacer, 2., in the town. Take your passport or your national ID card & your escritura (property ownership papers) or rental contract. It’s always a good idea to take photocopies too.
If you have an informal agreement for your address, for instance if you are staying with family or friends & don’t have a rental contract, the person you are staying with can sign a form to say that you are living at that address.
While you are there, tell them that you also wish to register to vote, and you will be given a form to fill in & sign (they’ll help you at the Help Desk if you don’t read Spanish) & you’re registered! You will receive a voting card in the post just before the elections, so if you move, be sure to return to update your address. You can choose to vote in just the local elections, in the EU elections, or in both.
If you’re already on the padrón, but not registered to vote, visit the office with your photo ID/passport & ask to register to vote. If you’re not sure if are registered to vote you can visit the office to ask.
To ensure your vote in the local elections next year, please do this ASAP, & before the lists close on 30th December 2014.
